Customer solution for the wind energy industry based on Parallaksis Collaboration Desktop
Overview
The solution, we call “casoNOVA” (as a made-up word for the relation of casolute and RLE NOVA, as the department for future technologies) uses the modules “A&D Portal“ and “Task&Project Management“ of Parallaksis Collaboration Desktop. In addition, the solution includes customized functionalities of “Google Maps” and “Acrobat 3D PDF” integration.
The solution provides different views on the core product context: wind parks with one or more windmills inside.
Different views included in one web interface
The project view
The Task & Project module provides functionality for project management with the web interface. Microsoft Project is not needed. All features, including work-breakdown-structure, tasks, milestone with a Gant diagram, are working inside the Web browser.
Moreover, important features like project state, assignment of resources and work hours within a project can be addressed within the project view.
The management view
It is possible to extend the functionality towards more project controlling (“Health check”) by customi-zation, i.e. budget overview, KPIs, crystal report functionality. In our solution we integrate the Google Maps API to allow a “graphic-based project overview”: Every windmill is described by map attributes which allow seeing the location of the object geographically. Not implemented is a search over all wind parks (including windmills) to realize a map view with all active|finished|etc. projects.
The development view
Based on the “A&D Portal” module, the development view provides a web-based solution for distributed product development. Therefore the scalable data model allows all necessary functionality regarding workflow and organisation-, role- and group-based security.
All related project and development document data can be stored within the system. The amount of different business data objects (technical documentation, CAD data, bill of materials, expertises …) can be configured by a specific role.
Considering of later lifecycle tasks (maintenance, service), the simple document management can be increased towards a “wiki” or knowledge database. All kind of integrations are available (Microsoft Office / Outlook, CAD, ERP…) that allow storing experiences and knowledge of every user.
The compliance view
The document / development view can be amended by external or internal regulations, laws and standards. Using project controlling functionality, it’s possible to implement a simple health check towards the development projects.
The maintenance view
All available business data objects stored in the system can be accessed from any place just by a web browser, if the person has a login to the system and is in the needed role or organisation.
An E-Mail notification allows a simple update-mechanism if a specific business data object has changed.
For service tasks it is possible to create online reports if required. If Microsoft Office is available a simple integration allows to use and store specific report templates.
Our Acrobat 3D PDF integration allows to navigate to specific part information / documentation just by clicking on the graphic area (see screenshot, a new window opens). It spends time that is needed to locate the required object by search or relation functionality.
The supplier view
Based on web technologies, the solution provides a lightweight interface for suppliers to communicate with the wind energy company. All available business data objects stored in the system can be accessed from any place just by a web browser, if the person has a login to the system and is in the needed role or organisation. The range of functionality the supplier can use as well as the amount of business data objects depends on the configuration of the system and data modeller that is located on the company’s server. The supplier access via web browser allows also up-to-date documentation for maintenance and service tasks.

Future scenarios
In the future maybe the realization of a system access via mobile devices (PDA) or the implementation of functionalities to combine a maintenance system with RFID technology are customer needs we need to think about.
